Poison Apple
  • •The Poison Apple cocktail uses apple brandy, cider, orange liqueur, lime, and grenadine.
  • •It skips artificial green coloring in favor of real fall flavors and a natural red hue.
  • •Shake all ingredients except grenadine with ice, strain, then float the grenadine on top.
  • •The columnist embraces fall in Ponca City despite battling seasonal allergies this year.
  • •A Halloween bar crawl may be coming to downtown Ponca City — details still to be revealed.

Welcome, brave souls, to another chilling chapter from behind the bar. I’ve spent all year thinking about my costume. Will I be something funny, or something scary? That mystery is still waiting to be uncovered. But as any good Halloween party host knows, a great costume is just the beginning. A truly haunting evening requires the perfect atmosphere: spooky decorations, mysterious lighting, a soundtrack to set the mood, tasty treats, and a frightfully delicious potion to sip on!

And what better potion for the season than a Poison Apple? Skip the Toxic Avenger green sugar and go for the real thing with crisp apple cider. This wickedly refreshing cocktail combines apple brandy, orange liqueur, apple cider, lime juice, and a splash of grenadine for a drink that captures the flavors of fall without the neon-green disguise.

I may be fighting for my life against fall allergies, but I refuse to let them ruin my favorite time of year. Cooler weather, football games, changing leaves, scary movies, haunted houses, pumpkin patches, apple cider, and all the fall spices. There’s just something about fall that puts me in the mood to celebrate. There may be a Halloween bar crawl lurking in downtown Ponca City this year. The details remain buried for now, but whispers are spreading. Consider yourself warned!

 Recipe:

1 ½ oz Apple Brandy

½ oz Orange Liqueur

3 oz Apple Cider

½ oz Lime Juice

¼ oz Grenadine

In a cocktail shaker, shake everything except the grenadine with ice, strain over fresh ice, then add the grenadine for that signature Poison Apple color.
