One way to start your new year out right will be to attend the delightful production of A Year with Frog and Toad. It’s time to reserve your seats at Ponca Playhouse for the exciting production that the entire family will enjoy. The show will run January 16th to 25th, with Friday and Saturday evening shows at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees at 2 pm. Director Ryan Brown says, “This is the perfect family-friendly musical, a show of friendship, community and love.”
Brown goes on to say, “I love the show for many reasons, but the togetherness it makes the audience feel with the cast is my favorite.” He expresses that the Playhouse’s black box theatre and its intimate setting will strengthen that feeling even more as the characters come to life onstage.
The cast includes some community favorites, with Chris Schelp playing Frog and Brown doing double duty as Toad. Meghann Borum, Taryn Pruett and Thomas Rowell round out the cast with each playing a variety of characters.
Brown says many have helped pull this production together, especially serving as his eyes while he both directs and is on stage. Production designer is Emily Rose Parman, who is a favorite area director and was able to assist Brown, and Cara Kem’s challenging choreography adds an element of fun to the show. Producers for the production are Jake Arington and Kelly Riddle.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.poncaplayhouse.ludus.com or by calling the theater at 580-765-5360 and leaving a message with your contact information or emailing the Playhouse at PoncaPlayhouse@gmail.com . You may also purchase tickets at the theater an hour prior to any performance. The show comes from the stories of Arnold Lobel, which Brown encourages everyone to read if they are unfamiliar with them. The characters in the book are endearing just as they are on stage with the jazzy upbeat score and meaningful themes. Of the work put into this show and others at the Playhouse, Brown says:
“It takes a village to make a beautiful piece of art, and the Playhouse is very fortunate to have a very active village.”
The Playhouse board, cast and crew invite you to come out and enjoy an evening at the Playhouse with this hilarious and heartwarming story, as well as to volunteer for a production sometime!
