On a quiet stretch of Lake Road, something remarkable has taken shape—glass, light, and intention rising from the ground with the same care and precision that has defined Aesthetic State of Mind from the beginning. The new facility is more than a building. It’s a reflection of its founder, her journey, and the deeply personal philosophy that has turned a Ponca City med spa into one of Oklahoma’s most admired aesthetic and wellness destinations.

For Shannon Puetz-Somers, MSN, FNP-BC, this moment has been years in the making.

“I’ve been a nurse for nearly 14 years,” she says, tracing a career that spans hospice, home health, and critical care. “Even in nursing school, I knew I wanted to be in aesthetics or plastic surgery—but I also knew I needed a strong clinical foundation first.”

That commitment to medicine has never wavered. When Puetz-Somers opened Aesthetic State of Mind just over five years ago, she enrolled in school to become a board-certified nurse practitioner only one month later. It was a demanding decision—but a deliberate one.

“I wanted to keep growing clinically so I could offer the highest standard of care,” she explains. “Opening Aesthetic State of Mind allowed me to combine that medical training with my passion for helping people feel confident.”

A Dream That Outgrew Its Walls

When Puetz-Somers first imagined owning a med spa, she couldn’t have predicted how deeply it would embed itself into the lives of her patients—or how quickly it would outgrow its original space.

“It has far exceeded anything I ever imagined,” she says. “Over the last five and a half years, we’ve built such strong relationships with our patients that they’ve become an extension of our ASOM family. I never expected that.”

As demand grew, so did the vision. The search for a new home wasn’t easy. Puetz-Somers hoped to remain downtown, exploring countless existing buildings with her contractor, but none quite fit the needs of a growing, medically driven practice. Then, almost serendipitously, an opportunity emerged.

“A friend had purchased a lot off Lake Road and told me there was one left,” she recalls. “We reached out to the realtor and moved forward.”

From that moment on, the new space became a blank canvas—one Puetz-Somers had already been sketching in her mind for years.

Designed for Care, Built with Purpose

Unlike many construction projects that evolve as they go, Puetz-Somers arrived with clarity. For five years, she had journaled ideas—every workflow improvement, every patient comfort consideration, every operational detail she wished she could change.

“When I sat down with my contractor and architect, I knew the exact layout I wanted,” she says. “The details—I obsessed over those.”

Her priorities were clear: seamless flow, intuitive design, and an environment that put both patients and staff at ease.

“Our work is personal,” she says. “People reveal their deepest insecurities to us. I wanted an environment that lessened nervousness and anxiety as much as possible. Patient experience is everything.”

That intention is evident the moment you step inside. The layout is effortless. Treatment rooms are easy to navigate. Staff movement is streamlined. And above it all—literally—floats one of the space’s most striking features.

“My favorite element is the ceiling in the lobby,” Puetz-Somers says, smiling. “When I described it to my contractor, he told me he’d never seen anything like it before, let alone built it. But they made it happen—and it turned out to be nothing short of magical.”

Another moment sealed the reality of the build.

“When the glass wall went in, I came in late at night after the installers finished and just stared at it,” she recalls. “I was in disbelief. It was such a surreal moment.”

A Full-Service Destination for Aesthetics and Wellness

The expanded space allows Aesthetic State of Mind to fully realize its mission as a comprehensive aesthetic and wellness clinic. The practice offers neurotoxins, dermal fillers, advanced laser resurfacing and correction—including Halo, MOXI, and BBL HEROic—acne and pigment treatments, Hydrafacials, SkinPen microneedling, body contouring, hormone therapy, weight-management programs, IV therapy, and clinical skincare.

With the new facility, even more is possible: upgraded HEROic technology, laser peels, expanded hormone and weight-loss programs, and dedicated rooms for facials, massage, body wraps, and patient education.

“The goal was to create a true, full-service aesthetic and wellness destination,” Puetz-Somers says. “This space finally gives us the ability to do that.”

Integrity at the Core

In an industry often driven by trends and aesthetics alone, Puetz-Somers is firm about what sets Aesthetic State of Mind apart.

“Integrity over everything,” she says. “Unparalleled customer service. Always go above and beyond. Always learn and grow. Accept accountability.”

It’s a philosophy that resonates beyond the walls of the clinic. The providers at ASOM are trained medical professionals—registered nurses and nurse practitioners who have taught injectors across Oklahoma and led workshops out of state.

“These are medical procedures,” Puetz-Somers says. “It’s important not to fall prey to fads without science backing them. That’s one of the biggest issues in this industry right now.”

The combination of expertise and warmth hasn’t gone unnoticed. Other med spa owners have toured the new facility and called it the nicest they’ve seen—anywhere.

Rooted in Community, Built on Trust

For Puetz-Somers, community support is the foundation of everything.

“Without the trust of our patients, we wouldn’t be here,” she says. “I’m humbled every time I think about how much we owe to them.”

That gratitude fuels plans for the future. The new space will host skin-health seminars, hormone and weight-loss “lunch and learns,” and educational events designed to serve Ponca City and surrounding communities.

Growth, however, will always be thoughtful.

“We take things day by day,” she says. “Anytime we add something, we consult our patients and assess their needs.”

The Heart Behind the Work

Ask Puetz-Somers what she finds most rewarding about aesthetics, and her answer comes without hesitation.

“My patients. One hundred percent.”

She bristles at the misconception that aesthetics is about vanity.

“It’s helping moms feel comfortable getting in front of the camera with their families,” she says. “It’s improved self-esteem. It’s someone wearing a bathing suit for the first time in 20 years. It’s husbands calling to tell us we gave them their wife back.”

Some moments stay with her forever—like helping a patient lose more than 100 pounds without surgery.

“When she hit that milestone, there wasn’t a dry eye in the clinic,” Puetz-Somers says.

Her own journey adds depth to every interaction. She became a mother at 16, grew up below the poverty line, and remembers days without hot water.

“I would tell my younger self that every slip and fall contributes to the drive we have,” she says. “Every pain leads us to a life we dreamed of—not because of money, but because we inspire people, lead people, and help them feel good about themselves without ever compromising our values.”
