If the idea is to break away from the 1800’s themed ideology of “Pioneering” to begin celebrating exceptional females from the state of Oklahoma from all eras past and future, then the name should discard the term Pioneer as it has a natural regional connotation of Old West tradition. Simply naming the Oklahoma Women’s Museum is lackluster and should be more enticing and celebratory of those it wants to honor. Make it the Oklahoma Women Hall of Fame or Oklahoma Women’s History Museum, or Oklahoma’s Museum of Exceptional Women.

Make it the “Pioneer museum” and honor both men and women. Probably the reason no one goes is because it focuses solely on women. Include the other 50% of the population and maybe tourism increases. This gender focus experiment has failed. Let’s not lean into it more

Pioneer. Woman. Why did the word “woman” take precedence over “pioneer”. Why not change it to the “Pioneer” museum, to be more inclusive and not lose focus on our heritage and ancestors. Why drop “pioneer” and just focus on female history? This is erasure of history.
