Mamma Mia! will close the successful 67th season, opening with its first performance on May 22nd at Ponca Playhouse and will run through May 31st, with Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm. Mamma Mia! is a upbeat and fun musical written by Catherine Johnson, featuring the music and lyrics of ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus.
Directed by the talented Meghann Borum, this is set to be a production that shouldn’t be missed. Borum says, “Rehearsals for Mamma Mia are just about the most fun I’ve ever had working on a musical. These actors are so talented and dynamic. 25 people is a huge cast for us, but the joy in the room while we’re singing these iconic songs is just infectious, and I’m so glad to be able to bring all of these actors, dancers and musicians together for this special show.”
Since music is so important to this production, Borum has assembled wonderful talent to bring this show to the stage. She says, “Chad Anderson is the best music director I could possibly hope for. You can tell how much he loves this music, and he has worked with our cast until they sound phenomenal. The only thing better than these gorgeous ABBA songs is getting to hear my cast sing them with gusto. I can’t really describe the joy that brings, and I can’t wait for our audiences to experience it too.”
One of the features with this production is a free community performance on Thursday, May 28th, at 7:30pm courtesy of City Arts and the Public Art Fund. The free performance will be open seating, with doors opening as usual at 7pm.
You want to come to the Playhouse, have fun watching this show and leave singing these songs! With the large cast and heavy movement on stage, there will be seating for latecomers for the safety of cast and crew, so be certain to arrive in time to see the production.
