Fish Don’t Go to School

Henry loves his sparkly fish costume and wears it everywhere he goes—the grocery store, the dinner table and when he takes his pet fish, Marigold, on walks. With the first day of school quickly approaching, Henry is feeling very anxious, and he wishes he could take Marigold with him. Too bad his mom says fish don’t go to school, but Henry has something that will make him feel a whole lot braver.
On the first day of school, Henry dresses in his bravest attire—his sparkly fish costume. The costume made Henry feel brave even when everyone stared at him and no one sat beside him at circle time. Throughout the day, Henry sheds pieces of his costume as he paints, plays on the playground and enjoys story time. When the school day was over, Henry went home and told Marigold all about his wonderful day!
The first day of school can be very scary and stressful, especially when you’ve never gone to school before. If you’ve been to school and are moving up a grade, you at least know what to expect and you probably already have friends! For a child similar to Henry, just beginning school, there is a lot of fear surrounding the unknown.
Fish Don’t Go to School is a great book for young kids preparing for the first day of school. It will calm any worries they may have and show them that everything will be okay.
